This conference presentation was the first elaboration of the verbal protocol used in subsequent studies using dynamically-updated verbal descriptions. Serving as a proof of concept, it demonstrated that this verbal interface could support a far greater range of spatial tasks than are generally ascribed to spatial language, e.g. extending verbal information from traditional direction giving and route following to supporting free exploration and wayfinding behaviors.
